4 Things I Learned When I Started My Virtual Assistant Business — Erin Mortenson

What is actually possible when you work for yourself?

When I started my business, I really just wanted the freedom to be more mobile.

What I didn’t realize when I started my business was just how much my life would change in so many other ways. Here are some things that changed after I became a Virtual Assistant:

1. ANXIETY

Shortly after going full time in my business, the crippling anxiety I had been experiencing started to wane. One day, I woke up and realized that I hadn’t been having the same chest pains that I had been having for months due to stress! Owning my own business took a lot of work, but it was so worth it because it gave me freedom to do what I wanted and this helped with reducing my anxiety so much!

2. BOUNDARIES

I am a (recovering) people pleaser. As a self proclaimed doormat most of my life, I suddenly had to start standing up for myself and my business. I had to start setting real boundaries and sticking to them. I had to start saying “no” a lot more often. I found myself being taken advantage of less and respected more.

3. ABUNDANCE

I can provide for people. Imagine that! When I started my business, I had to ask my partner for help with my health insurance. This year, I bought him a new laptop because his old one was crap. That isn’t something I ever would have been able to do before. With hard work and an abundance mindset, I am able to provide not only for myself but for my loved ones as well.

4. CONFIDENCE

Never in a million years would I have imagined going live or posting my thoughts on the internet. I was soooo scared about what people would say about me. But I wanted the freedom, so I pushed through those fears and it got me here. Now, I don’t analyze my posts and videos 9,000 times like I used to!

So there you have it.
